From the Foreword: In 1971, the Stedelijk Museum got the opportunity to acquire the collection of unpublished writings which Malevich left behind in Berlin in 1927. Without hesitation I accepted the offer, thus complying with Malevich' explicit wish that his writings should be edited with care. Thanks to the effort of many persons and institutions we can now present the first book of this two-volume edition. First of all, I should like to thank the New Carlsberg Foundation and the Danish State Research Foundation, who have donated the funds for this publication. I am indebted to Mr. Troels Andersen, whose editorial skill has once again been of great use to us. Thanks to his knowledge and his valuable contacts he has been very successful in composing a whole of the existing material. I should also like to thank the translators, Mrs. X.
