Description: THEODORE ROOSEVELT ACKNOWLEDGES CONDOLENCES JUST A MONTH AFTER HIS SON, QUENTIN'S DEATH IN WWI, HAVING BEEN KILLED IN AERIAL COMBAT OVER FRANCE ON BASTILLE DAY (JULY 14TH), 1918 ROOSEVELT, THEODORE. (1858-1919). Twenty-sixth President of the United States (1901-9). Poignant Typed Letter Signed, “Theodore Roosevelt”, on his name-imprinted Kansas City Star stationery. One page, quarto. New York, August 19, 1918. To Jules Hilleroyes, Lyon, France. Roosevelt writes: “...I deeply appreciate your letter of sympathy, and I shall be glad to have my name used as one of the Honorary Presidents of your Union. Faithfully yours, Theodore Roosevelt”. Although Roosevelt's signature measures over 3 inches in length, one can see the physical exhaustion and the deep emotional loss inherent in its accomplishment. Quentin's death deeply effected T.R. and to many observers, he was never the same man thereafter. If you are unfamiliar with the story of Quentin and his service in the air-corps, and how the German's returned his personal effects after his plane crashed, look it up. It's well worth the read. Roosevelt died just 5 months later. This is a special letter in many ways. Shipping Information US Only - We send our items fully insured, adult signature required.
