The contract was for his services as a writer on the story that was temporarily entitled "Childs-5th Avenue". The film was eventually released in 1929 under the title "This is Heaven". Arthur Richman was not credited for the final film but his early writing work for this film in 1928 was most likely impactful on the final film. This contract is hand signed on the bottom by the Samuel Goldwyn Inc. Secretary, James A. Mulvey . It is also hand signed by writer, Arthur Richman. This contract includes the 2 pages shown in the photos above, there are no additional pages included. The 2nd picture above shows some shadows, which are just part of the picture and not actually on the item. This contract has 2 punch holes at the top edges and staples holding the 2 pages together. Additional Information: Originally titled "Fifth Avenue Childs" and then "Fifth Avenue", Childs Restaurant management would not give Goldwyn permission to use their name, eventually he landed on "This is Heaven". Some scenes were filmed on location in New York City. James A. Mulvey had been with Sam Goldwyn from the inception of his independent production company in the early 1920s, and over the years became Goldwyn's most trusted business confidant. Before Goldwyn, Mulvey worked for the old Boston & Westchester Railroad in New York, then moved to Price-Waterhouse where he served as an accountant to movie client Sam Goldwyn. When Goldwyn went independent in 1922, he hired Mulvey to run his New York office to enable the producer to became a hands-on filmmaker on the west coast. Mulvey preferred anonymity, and rejected generous offers to become a high-ranking executive at several major studios. He remained as president of Samuel Goldwyn Productions (later Samuel Goldwyn, Inc.) for over four decades. In what was essentially a privately-held company, Goldwyn took exception to his rule of never taking on partners, and gave Mulvey a five and a fraction percentage ownership of his independent studio. Playwright and Hollywood screenwriter Arthur Richman was born in New York City on April 16, 1886 to William and Janice (or Jennie) Reichman. His father, a native of Fürth, Bavaria, became a successful merchant after coming to America in the mid 1870s at around the age of twenty. Richman's mother was born in New York around 1865, the daughter of German immigrants. A younger sister, Metha, rounded out the family in 1892. Arthur Richman was a leading playwright in the 1920s and 30s, having produced eleven Broadway plays before Hollywood beckoned in the mid 1930s. He was probably best remembered for the plays "Ambush" (1922) and "The Awful Truth" (1924). This hand signed item is 100% original and authentic.
