After teaching Chemistry in a government college in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh for three years, he joined the Indian Railways Traffic Service as a Grade A officer and served in different Railway Zones of Indian Railways, eventually rising to the position of Chief Operations Manager, Eastern Railway, Kolkata. He has visited several countries including Ghana, West Africa, where he was a consuiltant for Ghana Railways in a World Bank project, USA, UK, Europe, Nepal, Singapore and Indonesia. He retired from service in 1991. Post retirement, he has been a consultant and a writer of stories and articles on railway history. He has published three books, one a collection of short stories and the others on history of Indian Railways. He lives with his wife in Hyderabad, Telangana.
