Description: Unsigned masterpiece attributed to Fratelli Toso's Pollio Peralda if not by Barovier Toso studios. Matter of some debate amongst the experts. Toomey said it was unsigned so not made to deceive. Only question that caused attribution challenges re: the famous Dorico models, besides no signature or label, was that it is too thick and heavy (not by much, but enough to say probably made by another related Venetian studio. Our experts said if not by Barovier it was probably Pollio, who made the also famous Cathedrale vases (with very similar square murrhines) for the Fratelli Toso studios. Appraised originally at 10000-12000(as Barovier Dorico), and as Fratelli Toso about 1/3rd of that! I was so irritated I had them send it back. This is an inherited item so we are open to fair offers It belonged to the Baroness Aino de Bodisco, supposedly a gift from her protege Oscar de la Renta when they moved to NYC from Europe c1962 or 63. He redecorated it, then left her when employed as a designer for Elizabeth Arden. Didn't leave her 605 Park Ave. apt until I inherited it with her estate in 1995. Only Toomey has seen it in person, though Wright saw photos and said Barovier Dorico like Toomey. This vase is 11"h and was very impressive in her entry, and went with her apartment, all gold Venetian-patterned Scalamandre wallpaper and Louis 16th style furniture. She kept silk flower arrays in it, so there are no stains from water or plant food.No damage at all. At least 6o years old, qualifying for mcm status. The murrhines are typical of both Barovier and Fra. Toso. The later made lots of hats and shoes etc well known to tourists. Not many big vases in this design by Fra. Toso with a neat and symmetric array of rectangular murrhines, all about the same: white rectangle outside then aquamarine blue, next, in the middle, clear with a white spot in the middle. Rectangles look like they are floating in the crystal clear body. Truly stunning and beautiful and rare!.I'll add more photos directly! Ships free UPS to the USA. Inquire for international shipping.
