Description: This is a rare antique Tower & Lyon Adjustable Throat Block Plane in very nice condition. It is a Chaplin's May 1872 patent plane. I believe it is a Type 3, which were manufactured from October, 1887 to 1899. It is comparable in size to the Stanley no. 4 plane. The blade is 2 inches wide, sharp with no nicks. The blade depth adjustment is obtained by an ingenious adaptation of the worm and worm-wheel gear system. The body is approximately 9 inches long and has most of its original black japanning. The base is the corrugated variety. The handle is made of Ebonite, vulcanized hard rubber. Please review the photos for condition details. It was manufactured in New York, USA. This vintage Tower & Lyon adjustable throat plane is very clean and would be a great addition to a collection and can be used as designed on all your woodworking tasks.
