In the extremely rare event I cannot get this title to work on your system I will take it back for a full refund. All I ask is minimal assistance from you during the troubleshooting process. The Game Despite the title of this game, Treasure Quest is not an adventure game about gold doubloons, bearded pirates and plundered galleons. Nor is it the release in another company's Quest series of side-scrolling, humorous adventures; the company is Sirius not Sierra. It is, in fact, a incredibly challenging puzzle game; one which rewarded the first correct solution with a prize of one million dollars.. The story behind the game is an intriguing one. Professor Jonathon William Faulkner has recently died, his amassed fortune bequeathed to the first person who can solve the mystery he has created. To do so, the player must venture into the Professor's impressive mansion to find the numerous words and phrases scattered throughout its environs which make up 10 unique quotations. During your quest you will be accompanied by your spirit guide, played by Terry Farrell (Star Trek: Deep Space 9), who will flit around you from time to time whispering clues and offering advice while wearing distinctly non-regulation starfleet attire. Each room consists of a collection of photographs with hot-spots. It's a simple matter to click your rodent on a suspicious looking painting, wall hanging, or statue to see if there's anything of interest in that area. Within each room is hidden a quotation formed from the vast number of cryptograms, anacrostics and word puzzles found within. The multimedia aspects of the game provide you with clues and hints as to their solution, however additional research will certainly be necessary to reveal all of the quotations and attempt to provide the ultimate solution. The technical accomplishments within Quest are above average but not remarkable. Photographs depicting each room of the mansion are clear and uncluttered allowing you to easily locate potential clues. The user interface is one of the simplest point and click jobs you'll ever see, rivaling Myst in its simplicity. As a puzzle game, Quest is beyond compare. The anagrams are incredibly challenging, the clues (the one's that I've deciphered) are well conceived and the off-line research required to solve the puzzles will have crossword fans and fanatical puzzlers alike frequenting libraries and dusty archives well into the wee hours. This quest is not an easy one; if you can actually solve this game you deserve more than one million dollars.. You probably deserve one hundred billion dollars! Be warned that Quest does not inform you of your progress throughout the game. The only true rewards you will discover occur when you solve the puzzles necessary to enter the three rooms in the mansion which are locked (Library, Attic and Cellar). Quest requires a different mindset to play the game to its fullest because it is not really a game as most people would envisage it. There is no Ultimate Bad Guy to topple and there aren't any visual/audible rewards or cutscenes to indicate when you've solved a particularly tricky anagram, and there also aren't hordes of Shargas being oppressed by Throgs in desperate need of deodorant. Overall Quest is a product that provokes extreme emotional responses; you'll either love this game to death or loathe it with a vengeance. If you're a gamer who enjoyed the scholastic endeavours of your youth, or are a fan of Infocom text-adventures, then Treasure Quest is the game for you; I doubt you'll have experienced anything as dialectic as this in a long while. Note: My compatibility CD does not alter the retail game or bypass copy protection. It allows the original media to install and run correctly on any recent version of Windows.
