Signed lower right, the work dates c1960s in our opinion. Ralph Hartley (1926 – 1988) was a Northamptonshire – Kettering artist, who flourished between the 1950s to the 80s, in particular. He exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1966, being recognised with a Silver Medal; he exhibited at the Royal Academy, the New English Art Club, the Royal Society of British Artists and Industrial Painters, with his work included in the collections of several leading middle-England art galleries, besides major collections worldwide. A prolific artist in a signature, loose impressionist style, his work is collected worldwide and is now scarce and appreciative in value. Hartley mostly painted landscapes featuring the villages and farm holdings around where he grew up and lived his life, around Northamptonshire and in particular, Kettering and its environs, including the villages of neighbouring south Staffordshire, such as Cradley Heath. He worked mostly in watercolours, with just a few works found in oils, very rare for the artist.
