The history of the national symbol began on February 25, 1918 in Korosten, when the Small Council decided to adopt the emblem of the Kyiv State of the time of Prince Volodymyr the Saint as the coat of arms of the Ukrainian People's Republic. The drawings of the first coats of arms were made by the artist and architect Vasyl Krychevsky, laying the foundation for the use of the trident as a state symbol.
