Description: Welcome to Tryon Palace Restoration in New Bern, North Carolina! This historic site holds the title of being the first permanent capitol of North Carolina, built by Royal Governor William Tryon between 1767-1770. Thanks to the generous gifts of the late Mrs. James Edwin Latham, the restoration of Tryon Palace was made possible from 1952-1959 under the direction of the Tryon Palace Commission, a State Agency. One of the highlights of the restoration is the Central Room in the basement. Here you will find brick pavers that were made to match those excavated on the site, as well as antique maps and engravings. The English oak dresser, dating back to 1720-1740, is adorned with antique pewter accessories. A unique feature in this room is the Beer Trolley, which could be rolled from person to person on the pine trestle table. Capture the beauty and history of Tryon Palace Restoration through the lens of photographer L. H. Frohman from Bronxville, N. Y. This postcard serves as a reminder of the rich heritage and meticulous restoration efforts that have preserved this important piece of North Carolina history. Whether you are a history buff, architecture enthusiast, or simply appreciate the beauty of a well-preserved historic site, Tryon Palace Restoration is a must-visit destination. Come explore the past and immerse yourself in the charm of this iconic landmark.
