Description: An old tintype by unknown photographer, circa 1880s. A portrait of two young women; from an old New Jersey album, the woman on right was identified as Mrs. Graves. Tintype photos were not made from negatives, so each one is a one-of-a-kind image; the only way they could be produced in quantity, was by using a special camera that could take multiple photographs at one time, but that was uncommon. The thing that makes tintypes unique is they were produced directly upon the sheet metal, just as daguerreotypes were produced upon silver-plated copper plates, and ambrotypes directly on glass.
