Description: I have decided to do some downsizing of my significant collection of Napoleonic French light cavalry sabres. Up for sale, an Egyptian mameluke/mamluk/mameluk saber from the period of Napoleon's invasion of Egypt. The French loved these swords and brought them back in some numbers after their failed invasion of Egypt in 1798/1799, and both the French and English made their own versions of the mameluk. This sabre was purchased at auction in France around 2010.It was originally produced between 1760-1790 for use by the mamelukes who fought the French at the Battles of Aboukir and the Pyramids. It is in overall very good to excellent condition; the blade is somewhat stained but has no pitting and still has visible the elegant engravings with faint traces of gilt. The bone hilt is good, but missing the brass backpiece. The scabbard is in very good to excellent condition, with the usual minor dings from wear and use. The leather of the scabbard is original and in great shape; the blacking likely renewed at some point (not by me, but it appears to have been). The wooden inserts are intact. I have waxed the leather as a preservative. The blade is 27.5" long and overall length 34.5"A tremendous piece of history, in overall very good condition. This sabre is guaranteed to be all original (with the possible exception of the blacking of the leather as described above) and to be at least 240 years old.More photos available on request; I will add some to the listing shortly.Prefer buyers from US/Canada (shipping at $60); maybe UK, other overseas buyers will be considered on a case-by-case basis, but shipping cost is very expensive right now and I reserve the right to cancel the sale and not ship, if I think it may be lost in local mail.
