Emma (Bancroft) stayed with the company and became a star, although her aging career is nearing its end. Both women want what the other has and reflects back on missed chances as they are brought together again through Deedee's daughter (Browne) who has joined the company. The film was nominated for eleven Academy AwardsÑincluding Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress for both Bancroft and MacLaine, and Best Screenplay.
