The shell is from a legal fresh water turtle that is not endangered but raised for their meat. The shell is a byproduct. The handle is saguaro cactus wood. It is adorned with soft deer skin and suede leather and beaver fur. This is an awesome rattle. The picture doesn't do it justice. It measures about 12 inches long.
