Description: The pair of prints offered here were published in 1815 in a portfolio entitled, The Costume of the Original Inhabitants of the British Islands. The images were designed and drawn by the artist Charles Hamilton Smith (1776-1859). The aquatinter/engraver was Richard Havell, Senior (1769-1832), who, in partnership with his son Richard Havell, Junior, has become famous for his work as the aquatinter and publisher of the first edition of James Audubon's Birds of America. One of the prints offered here has a clear watermark in the paper, J. Whatman 1811. If you wish to see others in this series of costume prints, please refer to the online collection of the Royal Academy of Art. These prints are from my personal collection which I am beginning to sell off. Unless noted otherwise in the description, the prints, art and other items that I sell are not "reproductions". Please check my other listings for additional items of interest. I will combine shipping.
