Description: This print is from a rare portfolio of high quality photogravure prints of the University of California Berkeley, dating from about 1912. This date is ascertained by the printing type, the paper and the subject matter in the portfolio (mostly horse-drawn carriages, with one early automobile (prob Model T) visible in one print in the series. The printing method was the mechanical photogravure-- an extremely high-end printing method of the Victorian/Edwardian era that delivered incredible detail and no dot matrix pattern. The print depicts South Hall at Berkeley. This is the oldest building on campus. It's twin (North Hall) was dmolished in 1917. This incredibly beautiful photogravure is single-sided. It was glued onto brownish paper by the corners. It would probably be fairly easy to steam off the photogravure, but I have not tried. Tons of detail in this print, and beautiful tones. This would look wonderful framed. The brown/grey page measures 11.5 x 10 inches (27 x 25.5cm), and the actual image area is about 7.75 x 5.75 inches (19.5 x 12.5cm).
