Description: This listing is for a large Tyrannosaurus Rex or Nanotyrannus toe claw from the Hell Creek Formation of Montana. The claw was a surface find with no repair or restoration and measures 2.84” in length on a straight line with accurate digital calipers. If the tip was still there it would measure well over 3” in length. This claw is definitely Tyrannosaur but it’s hard to say for sure if it’s from a Nanotyrannus or a young T Rex. This is a super rare fossil you rarely see for sale and would make a great additional to any advanced fossil collection! The claw will be shipped expedited with insurance. The Hell Creek Formation dates back to the Late Cretaceous approximately 66-68 million years in age. It represent the coastline of an ancient sea that spanned across the middle of North American during much of the Mesozoic Era. That is why dinosaur remains are so common in the American West, those areas were the ancient floodplains of a seaway that no longer exists. Dinosaur like the famous Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops and Pachycephalosaurus were part of this amazing ecosystem. Other dinosaur such as Edmontosaurus, Thescelosaurus, Struthiomimus and Oviraptorids existed here as well. And of course there were the Dromaeosaurs "Raptors) that inhabited this area and preyed upon these species such as Acheropraptor and Dakotaraptor.
