Description: UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD 1969 POCKET CALENDAR -- GOLDEN SPIKE SPECIAL ISSUE. This unused pocket calendar is in a great shape and well-preserved...it looks like it was published just yesterday. Of note, it was issued by the UP as a special pocket calendar to celebrate its centennial in 1969. This type of pocket calendar would have been offered primarily to shippers (or customers) by the Traffic Department to remind them to consider the UP for any upcoming rail shipping and travel needs. The inside first few pages provide the user with a place to note their personal information, followed by a brief synopsis of the UP story, and closes with an offer to write to the UP's President, Edd H. Bailey, in complete confidence if interested in any of UP's industrial property sites. This type of personal touch and approach between a major railroad and its shippers is something less common today, making this a very interesting vintage item. Perfect for those interested in the Union Pacific RR and its Golden Spike Centennial, collectors of railroad memoribilia, and anyone interested major corporation PR efforts of the late-1960s.
