Description: Antique Celluloid Kushi-Kanzashi Hair Ornament This item came from the Gion Kobu Geisha District of Kyoto. It is made of a vintage type of translucent celluloid that mimics tortoise shell. Unique design of little men crawling across a bed of tiny flowers. Kanzashi like this are normally not used as a comb but rather worn as an ornament in the hair. It ia probably 60-80 years old. It Measures: 11cm (4¼") in length.Weight: 25g It is in excellent condition with nothing broken or missing (except for a tiny gold dot from one of the flowers). Note that the teeth of antique combs occasionally contain a kind of wax called “Bintsuke Abura” which is used to shape “Nihongami" hairstyles - it is often possible to remove it if you are careful not to damage the lacquer.
