Unique Echinopsis hybrid (Schick Crepe Crusader x Celeste) cross 160649A

Description: Background on my Echinopsis hybridsLooking over my other listings, you can learn about the Echinopsis cultivars created by Schick, Johnson, and others.I like to hybridize these cultivars to create my own new hybrids. I'll plant out the seeds, wait a few years, and as they flower, I select the nicest to sell here. I'm not joking...plants that aren't up to my standards...well, they take a quick trip to the compost pile! (I can just see some of you clutching your pearls...)Each plant is absolutely unique....I've grown it from seed to flower, and am selling it to you. So you are the only person who will have this specific plant. If you've never grown a seed-grown Echinopsis before, let me alert you about the plant form. Very often the plant is shaped like a funnel...the base of the plant is long and tapered. That's because it grew up from a seed, and not as a root bud. Oh...a disclaimer about flower colors. Sometimes the flowers are easy to describe, like "white" or "yellow". But many times the flowers have an insane blend of magenta, and purple, and orange, and salmon, in a mix that's hard to describe. In those cases, just look at the sale photos. But a warning about those sale photos...flowers photographed in full sun look completely different from flowers photographed in the shade. Don't be surprised if they look different! The sale specimenHere is some information about this beauty. It really is lovely....I wouldn't offer it up here if it wasn't!Date of cross: 12 June 2016Parent plants: Crepe Crusader x CelesteFlower color: A beautiful shade of pink, suffused with lavender. The petal midribs are more saturated, while the outer petals are more soft-colored overall, giving the flowers a very complicated overall impact. Petal shapes: Long-elliptical with elongate ends, with a long tendril-like tip. Petals in two to three ranks.Tepals: Narrowly triangular, similar to petals but longer. Moderately to strongly reflexed. Plant body: Small-globular to elongate. The plant is shown in a 3" pot, but will be shipped bare root. Spination: Sparsely spined, but the spines are very strong. This is a very nice plant with large, frilly, and very impactful flowers.General cultivationAs I mentioned above, seedgrown Echinopsis sometimes have a very wobbly, tapered base. When you plant yours, sink it into the ground far enough so it is stable. These plants are quite easy to grow, as long as you know a bit about cacti. I grow this plant in light (30%) shade--they can burn if you grow them in full sun. On the other hand, some of the really big ones don't mind intense sunlight. If you grow them in heavy shade they don't do well. I let the plants get well over 110 F (43 C) during the summer, so they can take a lot of heat! They can take winter temperatures at or slightly below freezing, but be careful. As long as they get below 40F (5C) in the winter, they flower vigorously in the spring and summer. Some of the plants can even take a cold, wet winter, but I recommend you experiment on spares before you risk anything very valuable.I grow some of my plants in pure inorganic medium, so I fertilize lightly with each watering. I also grow them in well drained cactus mix with some organic matter in the blend. Echinopis are easy...they'll grow well in any standard cactus cultivation system.Plants in my cultivation are treated with systemic insecticides once or twice per year, but only as needed. As such, this specimen should be considered reasonably pest-free. I will NOT sell a plant if I find mites or mealy bugs on them. Note, however, that I grow it outdoors with a minimum of pesticides, and suitable pest precautions should be taken in incorporating them into your collection or landscape. The plant is adapted to bright sun in central California. However, shade it lightly for a few weeks after receiving it. I find that this plant is quite easy to grow.I do not buy plants to quickly turn them around and resell them. I know all the plants I sell---most have resulted from normal propagation of my collection plants. If you have questions about growing them, please do not hesitate to ask. I will provide a short care sheet with the plant, too. Shipping in extreme conditionsThe plant will be shipped bare-root--they're perfectly fine with that. Please ensure that your shipping address will not expose the boxed plant to extreme conditions. Mailboxes in full sun can become dangerously hot, and I will ship to cold climates at your risk. During winter months, I can include a heat pack, which you can buy from me through my separate listing for it.I work to fulfill orders as soon as I can. If you want me to hold off on shipping, I will, but note that once you pay I must ship within 3 days, otherwise eBay gets mad at me.Combined shippingIf you purchase multiple items from me, I will combine them into a single box and you'll pay less for shipping. My eBay business is small enough I'll notice you have purchased multiple items. Please pay for everything upfront, when I box everything up I will calculate the new shipping charges, and refund you the difference via PayPal. Unhappy? If there are problems with the plant when it arrives, please discuss it with me so I can make things right with you (instead of giving my eBay account a bad review).
