Description: This book is in very good condition, although it is not in perfect condition. It measures 8.5in x 11.5in x 1.5in. On the front cover on the edge on the right, there is a very small pea size staining of some sort. It looks as if a liquid dropped on it and dried up. Also, the very last page between the back cover and the next blank page, there are some drip looking stains. Other than that there's absolutely nothing wrong with the book as far as I could see. Although I did not look at every single page. I saw no writing in the book or dog ears. This is a first edition printed in 1976. There were two subsequent printings. When was the 1984 and I'm not sure when the other one was. The book is no longer available from the author/publisher. The book is 400 pages with about 1,000 pictures. This book is an excellent historical reference. The following was printed in 2016: "Battle Ground, like the rest of North Clark County, is growing rapidly. One thing that can never be changed though, is the rich history of the Battle Ground community. This history is best presented through a book by Louise Tucker. The book is titled Battle Ground In and Around and is a 400-page pictorial collection of about 1,000 images provided by residents and pioneer families. It was put together and published in 1976. For many people, its 40-year-old age today is partially what makes it great. History books are never outdated, said Tucker. As generations move ahead from the past, they no longer have living family and friends to tell them how life was. Since age two Tucker has lived in the community, making her a true Battle Ground native. Though she admits lots has changed, theres still a great sense of pride in what people of the town call home. That feeling echos through every page. Having lived in the general area for over 80 years now, Ive seen our growth as inevitable. Weve been discovered. Ive welcomed the additional services available while still occasionally seeing deer within a mile of town, she said. We still have a rural flavor which gives us a certain feeling of freedom. In 40 years, about 4,000 copies have been sold and now only about 600 remain left for purchase. Tucker jokingly said she hopes to sell them all before I die. This Christmas if youre still searching for a gift for someone who lives in Battle Ground, or just enjoys history books, this one makes for a great buy. Older people can reminisce about the times as told by their parents or grandparents, said Tucker on the target audience, adding the book can be enjoyed by younger generations of the town. Young people can find out more about where they or their ancestors lived. Unlike many local history books written for other areas, this book shows through carefully selected photos, how life was lived and is not a book of individual family histories, Tucker said. Within the book are chapters divided by several topics such as farming, logging and transportation. The book is a non-narrative, to which Tucker said you can easily pick up and begin reading any page. Battle Ground In and Around is also fully indexed by personal names and communities. Its hard bound in rich burgundy leatherette with a gold embossed cover. A compliment to any coffee table, said Tucker. The book can be purchased at Battle Ground Auto License, Mill Creek Pub, Main Street Florist or Old Town Battle Grounds. You can also buy the book online at BattleGroundHistoryBook.com. The sale price is $40. Go to the grocery store, spend $40 today and its gone tomorrow, but feed yourself $40 of history and you keep it for a lifetime, Tucker said. Books bring instant joy and relaxation. No batteries, no hookups, no searches just pick it up and you are connected." https://www.thereflector.com/stories/battle-ground-history-book-gets-better-as-time-passes,44628
