Description: Scott #894 "PONY EXPRESS RIDER" stamp. 1940. The 2nd photo shows a slight bend in the last column. The 4th photo shows a perforation separation at the top right stamp. the last photo shows a perforation at the top stamp in the first column. None of the stamps are affected by this. Issued April 3, 1940 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Pony Express. Stamp shows a rider en route from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California. Pony Express ended on October 24, 1861 lasting only 18 months before being replaced by the telegraph. ON A PERSONAL NOTE: My husband & I had a business where we supplied small framed, matted stamps to museums all across the country. This was one of them and we sent this stamp and also the newer Pony Express Scott # 1154 issued in 1960. We retired from this but still have different stamps from different museums which I am now listing as seen in our store.
