Description: Included in listing: 1 x WW2 Medal for Merit in box. Medal is nice but box is well worn from over 70 years since manufacture. Label shows manufacturer. Note: The Medal for Merit was the highest civilian decoration of the United States during World War II and was awarded by the President of the United States to civilians who "distinguished themselves by exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services" in the war effort "since the proclamation of an emergency by the President on September 8, 1939". It was only awarded for WWII service and last awards were finally given in 1952. The list of awardees reads like a who-is-who of famous WWII civilians, including Oppenheimer. This medal for sale is unattributed. The medal was discontinued in 1952. These are becoming hard to find and are fairly rare, so don't wait to get yours. As seen in pictures. Item is sold as is.
