Description: This flag was flown over the Capitol for my Mother in Law, Helen Brooks, in recognition of the work she had done with the headstart program in Bradley County, TN.The newspaper made a mistake and called her Mrs Ralph Brooks (She was Mrs Walter Brooks (Helen) ) but the flag box has her correct name. After the ceremony and photos, the aide put the box in the car and they drove off with it. Helen was not bothered - she had been given the flag and even though it was not in her possession, she was proud of the honor but her husband was a little mad. He wrote to Mr Bill Pope, and explained what had happened. Unfortunately, Mr Pope was now working as the Attorney General for neighboring Rhea County. Eventually, after many letters, his plea about the flag reached the desk of Senator Lincoln Davies who had this replacement flag flown in 2004! Once the flag was received, as a proud Military man, he folded it and put it into a temporary case but Helen refused to have it on the wall. I no longer have the case but I do still have the original box and certificate. The flag has never been flown. It has been handled occasionally but I cannot see any sign of wear or damage. The flag will not fit into the box as it is but all items will be shipped in an oversize box and securely packaged.
