Description: AMIRI BARAKA New Music-New Poetry. Used vintage rare LP (not RE) in Very Good+/Very Good+ condition. Recorded live; India Navigation Records Catalog # IN-1048; 1981 Condition: Vinyl average in terms of surface noise, played twice only, a few tiny scuff marks, labels pristine. Jacket has minor wrinkles at three corners, hint of ring impression on front only, but very clean at age 40 years plus. Original four-page insert with lyrics included, some wrinkles at bottom.NOTE: This album is fetching big bucks elsewhere on internet; I think my price is quite reasonable. Behind the Music: Amiri Baraka (slave name LeRoi Jones), noted poet and playwright, pulls no punches and takes no prisoners in this performance recorded live, with very energetic accompaniment by David Murray on tenor sax and bass clarinet, and Steve McCall, percussion. I have found that many performers have fallen on their faces trying to set spoken word material to a Jazz ambience; fortunately Baraka escapes that criticism. NOTE: this album features some “naughty words”—which apparently terrify some people—and will not appeal to racist types (how odd!). India Navigation was a small, very independent label based in downtown Manhattan, operating without corporate restraints. Not much of that going on in the decades following this recording. The selections: The Last Revolutionary (for Abbie Hoffman) [beware of poet’s tongue in his cheek!]; Against Bourgeois Art; Strunza Med; I Love Music; Dope; Class Struggle in Music, Parts One and Two; In the Tradition (for Black Arthur Blythe). About the seller: I am downsizing my personal belongings, and you can benefit. Unless otherwise indicated, all my records have been owned by me alone and treated with loving care. No scratches or gouges. I have been a Jazz radio broadcaster for 30+ years, but my musical tastes are wide-ranging. You will see this as my listed offerings grow. New items added weekly, check back often! PLEASE NOTE: I will not sell anything for less than $9.99, as it’s not worth packaging the item up and taking it to the Post Office. Sure, you can buy an LP for 50 cents or less at a yard sale, but will it have been cared for like mine? Not likely. FREE SHIPPING to U.S. address for purchase of any item of $100 or more.
