Description: Attention all Marines and Marine Corps patch enthusiasts! Here's a FINE example of a subdued OD unit logo patch for Third Marine Aircraft Wing. During WWII, Marines actually wore air wing patches as a shoulder sleeve insignia. The practice was discontinued in 1947, but the aviation patches still find their way onto flight jackets and flight suits, as well as off-duty civilian clothing. (This, of course, is not a WWII patch, but a modern subdued variant.) NOTE: This traditional subdued olive-drab patch goes best with woodland camouflage colors. "Rotorheads" ..... or anyone else with ties to “the Wing.” 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing has an impressive combat history, beginning with bomber and night-fighter squadron deployments in WWII ! 3rd MAW continued its storied history with personnel and squadron deployments to Vietnam, and in later years to Operations Desert Storm and Restore Hope! And of course, they made history once again in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom!
