USMC 6th Marine Division PATCH Subdued OD ! RARE! 6th MarDiv camo for WWII Vets!

Description: Attention all Marines and Marine Corps patch enthusiasts! Here's a FINE example of a unit logo patch for Sixth Marine Division. During WWII, Marines actually wore these as a shoulder sleeve insignia. The practice was discontinued in 1947, but the patches are still worn on all manner of off-duty civilian caps and clothing as novelty items. (This, of course, is not a WWII patch, but a modern reproduction.) At war's end, after brief occupation duty in Japan and China, 6th MarDiv was deactivated in 1946, and remains inactive to date. The names MELANESIA • MICRONESIA • ORIENT emblazoned on the patch are said to represent the prior battle histories of the units that came together to form the division. Most notable of these were the Raider Battalions which were reorganized to form the 4th Regiment. NOTE: This subdued patch is a rare item indeed! It is conceivable that 6th MarDiv vets from WWII would need a "former combat unit" patch for later service in Army or National Guard. But since subdued patches didn’t come into use until the late 60s, the veteran in question would have to have been serving 20-plus years later!
