Description: USS DOLPHIN AGSS-555 offered is a United States Navy Submarine cover postmarked from Dolphin, Virginia on April 9, 2021. Blue photo of submarine in San Diego on cachet #2653 by Alvin Eckert, USCS #9964. Cover franked with a 55 cent US Flag stamp # 5657 and 25 cent Dolphin stamp #2511. This small, tubular 152' foot deep-diving research submarine was built at Portsmouth NSY between 1962 and 1968 and commissioned 17 August 1968. She served until decommissioned 15 Jan 2007 after setting many records for deep-diving. She was the platform where many tech and engineering experiments were conducted with new equipment and weapons.
