Description: USS Perry DMS-17 Memorial Pearl Harbor 1941 Ship naval cover with a pictorial postmark from Washington, DC dated July 1, 2021. Blue photo printed on cachet #3029 of this high-speed minesweeper by Alvin Eckert USCS #9964. Cover franked with a 55 cent flag stamp and a 3 cent USN stamp # 935 from 1946. The USS Perry was a 314' converted WW I era Clemson Class destroyer that was present during the 1941 attack. She served in the Pacific Fleet, and was ordered to Hawaii in 1940, she was converted into a minesweeper. This vessel was moored when the 7 December 1941 attack started. Her crew was able to fire on enemy aircraft. She was ordered to the South Pacific and served until 13 Sept 1944 when she sank after a mine explosion off Peleliu. All the crew was rescued.
