Description: A beautiful collectible set of four U.S. postage stamps issued in 1964 to commemorate the opening of the Verranzo-Narrows Bridge, the longest suspension bridge at the time. The bridge, named after Giovanni da Verranzo who discovered the New York Bay in 1524, spans Staten Island and Brooklyn. The upper level of this double decker suspension bridge opened in 1964 and the lower level, five years later. The stamps depict the bridge and a map of the area in the background. These stamps have never been used and are as fresh as the day they were sold at the Post Office almost 60 years ago! Suitable for framing, they would make a great gift for anyone interested in the history of New York and bridge enthusiasts!
