There are articles on Longevity with another on the Misery of Prolonged Existence, several articles about Murders, one on antiquated virginity and another with the title "The Sham Ghost". The Covers are present but detached, a previous owner's bookplate is attached to the back of the front cover, marbled paper over boards, 3/4 calf leather although the leather is now barely a memory, there are 3 end papers in the front and in the back of the book. The first end paper in the front has been 40% clipped and the third front end paper has two faint signatures. The last end paper has a pasted contemporary play bill (1819?) for Madame Mara's last Performance. Madame Mara (Gertud Elisabeth Schmeling) 1749- 1833 was a German Operatic soprano who when young received a lifetime contract from Frederich the Great of Prussia although the contact ceased to exist after some years even though Gertrud's life continued. After leaving Frederick, Gertrud continued performing as "Madame Mara" assuming her husband's surname and performed throughout Europe. She was perhaps the the first opera singer to become internationally famous. She achieved her greatest stardom in Great Britain and her last performance was in London in 1819.
