Description: EARLY ANTIQUE TEA CADDY A most unusual and probably unique tea caddy with two internal compartments. Of exceptional design with deeply dished concave sides and front, the caddy is in the manner of the Queen Anne style.Veneered in nicely figured walnut with boxwood stringing to the lid, this very eye-catching caddy sits upon a deep plinth with an ebonised finish which mirrors the shape of the box. Almost certainly the only caddy of its type available and consequently very rare in my opinion; it would sit nicely alongside other Georgian pieces such as a knife box which have concave design elements, or upon a Queen Anne walnut sideboard. Date: 18th Century in the style of Queen Anne Condition: Good restored and refinished condition. Externally the box has been comprehensively restored and refinished, now presenting a satin sheen. It has no major damage, but several small defects such as dings, small splits and surface marks have been retained in order that it doesn't look over-restored. Internally the original silvered paper finish is largely intact but does have minor wear, wrinkles and discolouration. The compartment lid brass handles are replacements. The hinges and lock components have been sympathetically cleaned. The key is absent.
