Description: Of the many 19th and 20th century world's fairs issuing ticket books, very few are known to exist from the 1909 AYP in Seattle. The format was used for several world's fairs. The AYP had relatively low attendence and seems to be acknowledged by many collectors as a second tier world's fair. Often, but not always, you can see the numbers of souvenirs known correlating to the size of the fair. Washington State's THREE world's fairs all fit into that generally small size when compared to major fairs. The 1909 AYP, and 1962 Century 21 Expo in Seattle and the 1974 fair in Spokane. As a historian I have studied most of the world's fairs that have ever been held and having spent a lot of time at the 1962 fair when I was in grade school and visited the '74 Expo on a media pass. Regarding souvenirs and other items for collectors, Spokane is a distant third; and the AYP didn't generate anywhere near the number of souvenirs of the largest of US fairs and seems to have significantly fewer souvenirs and tickets than say the '62 Seattle expo. And for ticket collectors none of the three can compare or even come close to having the number of souvenirs and tickets and medals with the number of passes, tickets and related itms of the 1893 Columbian Expo. And I don't believe I have EVER seen an AYP ticket book in my 45 years of selling Americana. The admission coupons that were/are in the the AYP ticket book are far more common than the ticket book itself. Like myriad otheer ticket books from fairs, the desirability and value come from not only its rarity, but the condition of the ticketbook. Too often one finds ticket books (not just for fairs; how about Disneyland!) that have been used up. Just the empty covers generally are ignored by collectors. So, this AYP ticket book is thick with unused daily admission tickets/coupons, the covers are intact and the mug shot of the owner of the ticket book is in great shape; the back cover is a bit worn aand the coupon for the Monitor vs. Merrimac extravagaza has been glued into the ticket book. Overall this is not just a very full and scarce ticket book but it is quite rare as well. Please review the photos and let us know if you have questions. This is both a rare piece and also very desirable because of the many unused admission tickets.
