The days are over of buying 20G turbos that are laggy and expensive. This type of performance is only possible because of the combination of the high-flow compressor wheel and the high-flow turbine shaft. There are companies offering 20G-style billet compressor wheel upgrade and retaining the stock turbine shaft. These upgrades improve performance/power over stock, but usually with some lag penalty and usually don't achieve our dyno-tested numbers. -----------------------------------So far, we have tested this 'G25-550 clone' kit to make 400whp on pump gas and 452whp on flex-fuel ethanol. This car on a Dynojet, would make 405whp on pump gas and 452whp on e50. For reference, on this particular Mustang dyno a stock STI, rated at 300hp at the crank at stock 16psi boost, makes 220-225whp. An STI at 16psi, basic bolt-ons, and a tune makes 240-250whp. An STI at 20-21psi, basic bolt-ons, and an aggressive tune makes about 270-280whp. This kit is compatible with the IHI VF-series journal bearing turbochargers listed below. FEATURESCOMPRESSOR WHEEL: The billet compressor wheel is a Garrett G25-550 clone. The compressor wheel is a 9-blade point-milled billet-aluminum in exactly the same way as the original Garrett part and the countour is profiled to fit the stock IHI compressor housing without any modification. DIRECT REPLACEMENT!TURBINE SHAFT: The turbine shaft is brand new and made of inconel for high-performance durability. It is a Garrett G25 UHF(Ultra High Flow) 9-blade design intended to reduce exhaust back pressure, reduce EGT's, and improve turbo spool. This is a hybrid turbine shaft you won't find anywhere else. This is a Garrett G25 blade profile grafted onto an IHI shaft and made to fit the stock turbine housing without any modification. DIRECT REPLACEMENT!THRUST BEARING: The OEM thrust bearing is made of porous sintered brass alloy. Sintered brass alloy works like a sponge and absorbs oil for the times of dry start or loss of lubrication. Sintered brass alloy is soft and can fail under high boost use. Thrust bearing failure can be diagnosed by in-and-out turbo shaft play. Thrust bearing failure damaged the compressor wheel, seal plate, and even wears into the compressor housing. Our CNC-machined billet brass thrust bearing is much harder and provides more protection in high boost applications. This billet thrust bearing comes standard on all IHI turbocharger rebuilds we perform in-house. It has been tested up to 28psi boost on test vehicles without any signs of leaking or failure. Second picture shows a comparison of the original IHI thrust bearing and our billet brass version.PISTON RINGS(OIL SEALS): Heat-treated turbine and compressor oil seal piston rings are supplied to stand up to extreme heat and racing applications. FASTENERS: We only use high-strength Torx bolts on the thrust bearing. Most cheap rebuild kits are supplied with either Allen-head or Phillips-head bolts. Both these options strip out easily before they reach target torque and they are also impossible to loosen. You might as well drill them out if you have to remove them. Our thrust bearing bolts are Torx, just like the original IHI, but are heat-treated and rated at a higher tensile strength for improved thrust bearing clamping at high-boost performance and racing turbo application. BALANCING: The turbine shaft, thrust collar, and the billet compressor wheel have been balance as an assembly and marked. No additional turbo balancing is required if you line up the marks on the compressor wheel, turbine shaft , and the shaft nut when assemblying the turbo. SEALING AND GASKETS: We are also including the turbo oil drain gasket and eight copper crush washers for the water and oil banjo bolts.
