Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 There are several products containing asbestos in this catalog. Many of the vehicles/engines listed (but NOT all) specify a type of asbestos gasket. Many of the gaskets were used on passenger cars, trucks, tractors, construction vehicles, marine engines and industrial engine gaskets. Victocor - Although not explicitly stated in this catalog Victocor is a "Special combination of victoprene and asbestos clamped to a steel insert." Victopac - Compressed Asbestos Sheets Asbestos Wire-Woven Packing Asbestos Wick Packing Asbestos Water Pump Packing Asbestos Millboard Corbestos ? "Sheet gasket material consisting of steel core with treated and graphited asbestos on both sides." Special note: There is a one page instruction guide for Antique Gaskets "Made" Easy! (see photo) In this guide it tells how to make a custom gasket from a sheet of Corbestos material. From the instructions, "Saw gasket outline using standard band saw. It may also be necessary to drill for adequate saw clearance and smaller openings." This drilling and sawing could have potentially released asbestos fibers into the air which in turn could have been inhaled into someone's lungs. Although the catalog says to use a band saw it was much more likely that a reciprocating saw or jig saw was used. People who could have been exposed to these asbestos containing products include automotive/engine mechanics as well as the do-it-yourself-ers that worked out of their own garage, home or barn. Many farmers made repairs to their machinery because they could not afford to pay a mechanic so it's possible farmers could have been exposed to asbestos this way. Vehicular Engines/Car Models of note: Commander Marine, Thermo Electron Marine, Panther Jet Marine, Pleasurecaft Marine, Dearborn marine, Flagship Marine, Buick, Chevrolet, GMC-Truck, Chrysler, Cummins-Truck, Deere (John Deere), De Soto, Dodge, Ford, International, Lincoln, Mack, Minneapolis-Moline, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Pontiac, Studebaker, Waukesha, and more! Each engine manufacturer listed has index numbers or codes for the various gasket or seal. For example the suffixes used on Cylinder Head Gaskets indicates the type of optional materials available. The following is a breakdown on the definition of the suffixes but it is not listed in this catalog (I got this from previous Victor catalogs see below): C - Copper & Asbestos S - Steel & Asbestos BS - Braided Steel K - Metal Core Composition ...(Corbetos - see note #1 below) TC- Heavy Duty Metal Core Composition...... (Victocor see note #1 below) VC - Heavy Duty Metal Core Composition..... (Victocor see note #1 below) Example: Looking at the photo for Chevrolet Passenger Cars, a 350 ENG. 8 CYL. (4.000"), the cylinder head gasket had an index number 1178VC(2), which based on the suffix letter VC is a Victocor gasket. This gasket was used on models from 1967 to 1978. Note #1 - Based on a comparison with a 1959 Victor Gasket Guide (currently listed under my items for sale) suffix K corresponds to Corbestos - "Treated asbestos combined to both sides of a perforated steel sheet and surface coated." and suffixes TC & VC correspond to Victocor - "Special combination of victoprene and asbestos clamped to a steel insert..."
