Description: Victorian solid silver letter opener. Very clear hallmarks for Sheffield 1862. Heavily carved Mother of Pearl. These letter Openers were originally used to break the wax seal on an envelope, nowadays usually called paper knives. Rare to find this length and weight. Made by prolific knife maker Harrison Brothers and Howson, who datefrom 1847-1914. Would suit a mans hand more than a ladies hand as larger than most letter Openers. Has little or no marks at all, in fact pretty much perfect. Blade is very straight and handle superb, no cracks, no scratches, no blemishes. Now 160 years old I used to collect letter Openers many years ago in my antique shop, and quite often kept the best ones. But now time to sell on a few. Others on my site available. Overall length : 21cms (8.375”) Will be well packed and tracked I will not send to USA as I have sent before and it was stopped at US customs .
