Description: manbarrel Early Vietnam War Era 11" x 14" Photograph USAF T-38 Talon Trainer Randolph AFB San Antonio TX Ships Worldwide From the estate of retired Air Force Major Niles A. Carter. Carter was one of the original shake-down pilots to fly the F-4C fighter modified for use in photographic reconnaissance during the mid 1950s. He also supervised training pilots, and here he is with some of his pilots with a T38 Talon at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.In the photo, Carter is the third man from the left in the back row-- definitely the oldest pilot of the group! This was what I was told by his family... but I could find no service information about Carter, anywhere! His family had hinted that I would not... does this mean his records are classified, even to this day? This is indeed a very interesting and historically important photograph! I believe the photo is from roughly 1961-1963 The photographer's address on the back of the mount shows no zip code. Zip codes were introduced in 1963. It is possible he had used the stamp until 1964, but not too likely. Carter and his crews flew their unarmed RF-4C jets over North Vietnam! During their controversial and dangerous missions, many of these pilots were shot down by the enemy. The photograph has separated from the backing board.
