I set out to find out who stamps/ stamped their jewelry SKAL, and this trademark was used by the Skalet Jewelry Co. of NYC, with its inception in the 1940s. As far as I can see, the trademark no longer exists. Wear it with the point up, or point down...whatever floats your boat! This is a REALLY NICE RING and very unique! We estimate that this was made somewhere between 1955 and 1970. The pear-shaped garnet is a very intense red, measuring 10 x 7 mm It's set in two prongs and a chevron tip to protect the point of the stone. PLEASE NOTE: The garnet has a bit of very slight abrasion on the facets of the center table of the stone, visible under a loupe. This does not detract from the overall presentation of this cool ring on your hand! The band is wide and the ring feels sturdy. The face measures 5/8" at the front. The band tapers to 1/4" at the inside of the finger. The ring is marked 14k SKAL and weighs 6.3 grams. It's a size 6.25.
