Description: This bold and sophisticated 1950's oil on artist's board in the post-impressionist mode measures 21 1/4" x 25 1/4" framed; 16" x 20" actual and is signed lower right Anne Duncan. Anne Duncan was an Indianapolis resident who painted most of her life. Born in Buck Creek, Indiana in th early 1900's, she studied at John Herron Art Institute and was a member of the Indianapolis Artist's Club. She preferred depicting the rural agricultural landscape using the flattened picture plane of post impressionism and accents of exaggerated color in the manner of the Fauves. Her works were exhibited at the Hoosier Salon in te 1950's, 60's and 70's. Duncan's pieces do not often come up for sale and the present painting represents her artistic approach at its best.
