Description: I was in the right place at the right time when I found this amazing model kit. If I hadn’t been this amazing atom model kit would have ended up in landfill. Yikes! Fisher Hirschfelder Taylor Atom Model Kit (No. 12-821) The first kit was made around 1940 by the Fisher Scientific Company (the headquarters for laboratory supplies.) My best guess is this kit dates back to mid or late 1940s. It definitely has mid-century modern vibes. The Fisher Hirschfelder Taylor Atom Model Kit was considered a breakthrough in educational science and has been on display at National Museum of American History. The pieces in the kit are used for "synthesizing" or “building” thousands of different organic molecules. Aside from the yellow pieces, the colors are very beautiful. And the pieces have minimal wear. What is included? [ 2 ] Yellow Sulfide No. 1 (1.20” diameter) [ 2 ] Yellow Sulfur No. 2 [ 2 ] Yellow Sulfate (1.25” diameter) [ 7 ] Light Blue Ether (1” diameter) [ 5 ] Light Blue Carbonyl [ 4 ] Dark Blue Amino (1” diameter) [ 2 ] Dark Blue Imide[ 2 ] Dark Blue Cyanide [ 2 ] Dark Blue Nitrate [ 2 ] Dark Blue Isonitrile [ 16 ] Orange Hydrogen (0.88” diameter) [ 84 ] metal connectors (0.33” diameter) [ 13 ] connected metal connectors [ 4 ] Mint Green Chlorine (1.13” diameter) [ 2 ] Tan Bromine (1.25” diameter) [ 2 ] Brown Iodine (1.33” diameter) [ 8 ] Black Carbon Paraffinic (1” diameter) [ 4 ] Black Carbon Olefinic [ 4 ] Black Carbon Acetylenic [ 12 ] Black Carbon Aromatic [ 4 ] Black Carbon Heterocyclic [ 1 ] Wood case with 2 latches for closing. Wood Case measures 15 1/2” x 14 1/4” x 2 5/8” What’s wrong with it? Not much. - The top of the wood case is worn and discolored some. - There is some tape where the edge of the case meets the element table. - There may be some missing pieces but not many. - The yellow pieces are losing their color. - The particle board used to make the separate compartments had that old particle board scent. I sparsely rubbed in a few drops of orange essential oil to neutralize. :)- Missing the instructions. Your atom model kit will be extremely well packaged and sent USPS Ground Advantage with tracking. I will refund any shipping overages in excess of $3. Yay!
