Description: This 1948 Southeast United States road map was issued by Esso. The map code is “248.” The map was published by the General Drafting Map Company and came from their archives. This map is in excellent original condition as shown in the photo. I bought part of this archival collection about 6 years ago and the rest of it recently. I saw some on eBay and bought them. The seller then explained that she had a few more boxes of these from the General Drafting archives and I was able to buy the lot. Her husband and another guy were in charge of donating the maps to the Newberry Library when their company bought General Drafting. One pallet of maps would not fit into the two semi-trucks filled with the maps. They made several attempts to contact the library to make alternative arrangement for shipping the maps but got no response. So they split them up and took them home. She told the other guy of my interest in these maps and he recently contacted me and I was able to buy them also. There is a variety of maps and all are stored in dated envelopes with 1 or 2 maps in each. Most are stamped and/or dated on the cover, but a few are not. Over the next few years, I will be offering many of these here on eBay. Shipping within the United States will be by First Class Postage. If you purchase multiple items, you can use the cart and request an invoice with updated shipping charges (works with some browsers only!!!). If not, I refund all excess postage paid through eBay.
