Description: On December 28, 1957, Army Captain James E. Bowman piloted a modified Cessna CH-1B to set an official FAI world altitude record for helicopters of 30,335 feet. This record stands as the highest altitude ever achieved by a piston-powered helicopter. Its horizontal configuration permitted the engine to be located forward, bringing the load directly below the rotor blades. This was Cessna's only helicopter design and proved its worth not only as an observer but also as a military combat transport vehicle resupplying remote HAWK SAM launchers. Today, only one CH-1 is known to survive – a YH-41A Seneca stored at the United States Army Aviation Museum at Fort Rucker, Alabama. In 1958 American model kit manufacturer Adams Action Models released a 1:40 scale model of the Cessna YH-41 “Missile Transporter”, which came with a pair of MIM-23 Hawk surface-to-air missiles to mount on the rear fuselage. This is a 1958 Adams kit in an open box with parts in factory sealed plastic and has never been assembled. Box has slight wear and tear. A few worn tape remnants but box art colors are bright with minimal fading. See photos. Items in photos are what buyer will receive.
