Description: Vintage 45rpm Waltz Through Washday Contest Record Wisc Power & Light OOAK. This is a unique 45 rpm record with the original sleeve. Minimal scratches or scuffs. ( there are fingerprints and smears that I left be sure I'd end up making scratches). The sleeve is a Very delicate tissue papery material. It has some damage from handling and age. It's a rare record to find that was exclusive to the Wisconsin Power and Light Company ( now our beloved Alliant Energy Company, I believe). According to the record's sleeve: A contest had been held in order to celebrate the arrival of the automatic laundry dryer wherein "Washday" was no longer an ALL DAY CHORE. The irony was: by pushing a button to dry your clothes, "housewives", as stated on the sleeve, can "Waltz through Washday". The Waltz on this record is 2 minutes and 8 seconds. It is the only song on each side. The original composer/ artist's name was a very local-- and very young man at the time-- Wisconsinite named WAYNE SWAYZEE. THE Contest challenge was to "name the waltz". Maybe the winner was chosen by judging the best title for this unnamed waltz... The prize to be won looks like it was an Automatic Dryer. It also states that if you already purchased a dryer and end up winning, you win your money for the dryer back, PLUS $50 in cash. ~after doing my generic and very short internet research, I couldn't find this anywhere except for one website. It was for sale without the sleeve. ( The owner did an awesome job at guessing what the record's purpose was without having the sleeve). I don't have a record player to be certain that this record works--it sounds wonderful or if it plays uninterrupted--but, the record on both sides looks in Excellent condition. I did not see any scratches or scuffs. It's a neat piece of domestic history and nostalgia because, my goodness--all day to do laundry would have been pure torture to some; others may have appreciated it.... This is just another unique and Collectible piece signifying the paradigm shift in our early to mid- century society. Housewives were TOUGH, I'd say.
