(Per various web sites: The brewery was founded by Jacob Ruppert Sr. in 1867; son Jacob Jr. began working there in 1887 and became president when his father died just before prohibition. This is possibly a bottle for the company's "Knickerbocker" or "Metropolitan" beers, with a paper label applied below the embossed circle. The brewery closed in 1965; the site is now the Ruppert Yorkville Towers apartment complex.)
