He was finally defeated for re-election in 1982 by Dick Durbin, the current Senate Majority Whip. Findley (1921-2019) was a moderate Republican from Jacksonville who said one of his proudest accomplishments was getting a Springfield teenager appointed as the first African-American House page in history in 1965. Findley was a supporter of the civil rights movement and an early opponent of war in Southeast Asia. Emery board measures 5” x 9/16” at the widest end.
