Description: Vintage framed cross stitch sampler measuring 10” x 13”. Message in the cross stitch is: “Friendship is the sweetness of an olden tender song a Fondness is that remembers Little kindness long”. It is well done craft-wise. It has a narrow wood frame in excellent condition. The border consists of black crosses. Note: I don’t know when it was made but it was framed at “Chester N. Reed Picture Frames, 28 Eliot Ave, West Newton 65 Mass” sometime between 1943 and 1963; the cross stitch itself may have been made somewhere else and much, much earlier! The address on the frame label has a postal code “65” but no zip code which may indicate (or not) the age of this item. (The USPS began using postal codes in 1943 and introduced zip codes on July 1, 1963.) . Thus, this sampler was “framed” sometime between 1943 and July 1, 1963 but it may have been made much earlier. Note: We acquired this piece with another cross stitch made by Lusina Nash and dated “1838”. Lusina was a 15-old born in Massachusetts when she made that cross stitch. Both cross stitches may have been made by Lusina.
