Description: Classic Vintage Dynakit (Dynaco) PAS-2 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier restored. Excellent working condition. Audiophile quality sound: clear, loud, detailed, dynamic and very rich (harmonic). Fully and meticulously recapped in October 2024 by my professional audio technician, Bruce Martin, with 60 years of experience. Work performed in October 2024:1. Power supply can capacitor replaced with a brand-new 2024 production CE Manufacturing can capacitor. Hand-machined manufactured in the USA on restored original Mallory equipment from the 1920s (according to their website).2. All electrolytic capacitors replaced with high quality modern capacitors. 3. Selenium rectifier replaced with modern diode.4. All driver board capacitors replaced with high quality "orange drops" capacitors.5. The two original treble and the two original bass controls potentiometers replaced with brand new Erhard Audio controls.6. All controls and switches cleaned twice with electronics cleaner.7. Bottom and top covers professionally chemical stripped, sand (media) blasted and powder coated (Spanish Gold and clear coat).8. Brand new polarized plug power cord installed.9. Some wire connections were re-soldered. The person who originally assembled this PAS-2 kit might have not used enough solder.10. A fuse holder and fuse were added for safety and protection. This preamp was not originally fused. Original clearly marked Dynaco Made in West Germany (Telefunken) 12AX7/ECC83 tubes included. All four tubes tested above 100% on both sections (like NOS) on my Jackson tube tester. They are easily worth $200. All four 12AX7 tubes were left securely set in their sockets. The rectifier tube has a different type of socket. I am not sure it will stay in place during shipping. I removed it and packed in a tube box inside the preamp. I secured the small tube box to the chassis with masking tape to avoid it shifting during shipping. The buyer will have to remove the top cover to reinstall the rectifier tube back in its socket. A couple of the RCA jacks on the rear panel are not as tight as the others. That is normal and it does not affect performance. You could tighten the tabs that hold them to the rear panel with a pair of pliers (please see photos of the interior of the preamp). I prefer to leave them alone. The bottom cover has no feet. I recommend the rubber/cork pads available here on eBay. This preamplifier will be packed using solid foam planks all around it for safe shipping. Please do not expect this preamplifier to work as if it were brand new. It's a vintage preamplifier that is a part of audio history. These Dynakit amps and preamps are cultural artifacts appreciated by collectors and vintage audio enthusiasts. It has flaws and it is far from perfect. It has many signs of age (60 years), especially on the faceplate and knobs. Please be aware that a tube, a resistor or even the power-on indicator light bulb can go bad at any time; in which case, the buyer would be responsible for replacing it. Please no returns. No buyer's remorse. No change of mind. No discounts after the sale. I like salvaging and restoring these preamplifiers for someone to use and to enjoy.
