Description: This listing is for a Fantastic Super Clean Vintage Tilshead briar pipe that was made by hand in England by the James Upshall pipe company. I think this is a very early pipe as the stamping is quite basic. In 1986 I had the pleasure of visiting Mr. Barnes & Mr. Jones at the James Upshall workshop. As shown in my pictures the left side reads TILSHEAD ENGLAND & the right reads MADE BY HAND. I call this shape a chimney Dublin. The finish is a beautiful smooth natural. To paraphrase from the Upshall website..It all begins with the Tilshead pipe, which smokes every bit as good as the James Upshall pipes , but has some slight cosmetic imperfections in the briar. Weight is 1.2oz. Length is about 5 1/2", Height is about 2 1/4", Diameter is 1 5/16" & the chamber is 13/16". Condition is Excellent.Mouthpieces is black vulcanite and NO filter can be used.
