Known for BEAUTIFUL COLOURS, Patterns, and attention to detail .... the Fenton Art Glass Co (known simply as "Fenton") was founded in 1905, OH - began production of their own product lines in 1907, WV.Offered here is a - Vintage FENTON Art-Glass Co. or Anchor-Hocking – Crystal-Clear-Glass with Opalescent-Milk-Glass Detailing - Wrisley Hobnail Cologne-Bottle - in near MINT - MOST-excellent, barely-used condition. There is NO Stopper offered here. These two bottles differ slightly in their measurements and proportions - clearly from different makers.ALL surfaces are SUPER-highly-glossy, shiny and clean. There are NO obvious chips, cracks nor flea-bites; No significant stains, scratches, rubs, nor hazing - any dark colour to the glass in photos is from internal reflections. The main colour of this Cologne Bottle is crystal-clear which transitions to fiery-opalescent, opal-white milk glass – more-so on the upper 1/4 of the bottle and within the interior of the hobnails on ~1/2 of the bottle. The design of the Cologne Bottle is elegant while also having good weight. The smooth neck flares open as it rises by three rounded steps from the bottle-proper to the top beaded opening. The bottle proper is globe shaped - with graduated hobnails (smallest near the neck) largest at the widest diameter, then a little smaller towards the subtle pedestal base. The surface is again smooth just above the base, over the pedestal, and bottom of the bottle. The center of the base s slightly recessed. There is no maker's mark nor paper sticker on either Cologne Bottle.Cologne Bottle #1 – Likely - Fenton - pictures 1-6This Bottle has more transluscent through the milk glass at the neck. This Cologne Bottle measures - ~ 4 5/8" in height; 1 1/2" in diameter across the opening, to the outer edge; the flat upper rim is 1/4" wide; the neck is 1 1/2" in height; the widest diameter is 4-4 1/4" in diameter; the pedestal base is 2" in diameter.Cologne Bottle #2 – Likely - Anchor-Hocking - pictures 7-12This Bottle has more opaqueness through the neck - with a visible transition of colour from clear to milk glass at the opening; the hobnails are more smoothed towards the bottle neck. This Cologne Bottle measures - ~4 1/2-5/8" in height; 1 3/8" in diameter across the opening, to the outer edge; the flat upper rim is 1/4" wide; the neck is 1 3/4" in height; the widest diameter is 3 3/4 - 4" in diameter; the pedestal base is 2" in diameter.SOME INTERESTING INFORMATION –Fenton -Fenton began in Martins Ferry Ohio, 1905 – founded by brothers Frank (the designer & decorator) and John Fenton – originally painting pre-made blanks, later making their own glass. They built a factory in Williamstown WV in 1906, production began 1907 introducing Carnival Glass – 1908 John Fenton and founded Millersburg Glass Co in Millersburg, OH.Frank was influenced by Tiffany & Steuben BUT mainly manufactured practical kitchenware and tableware glassware during the Great Depression & WWII …. while still producing some finer glassware items, interesting glass patterns & colours …. in 1939 releasing Hobnail Milk-Glass, which was instrumental in expanding the company due to its great success.Collectors of FENTON wanted to see a LOGO on the pieces that they wanted to collect. Prior to 1970, most of these pieces were not marked.Fenton's ICONIC LOGO changed over the years - also changed for special releases and anniversaries. As a result - an embossed LOGO appeared on carnival glass in 1970 - "Fenton within an Oval"; then was put on all hobnail and other glass in 1972-3; by 1975 nearly all glassware had the LOGO.The Fenton-Pattern named - Hobnail French (Opalescent) - 1939-64 - having a 6-part mold - a wide range of Drinkware, Stemware, Tableware, and Tableware accessories (candy dishes, cream & sugar, mustard pots, cake stand, individual cream & sugar, cruets, jelly-jars), candle-holders - several styles, vases, ginger jars, lamp bases, vanity dressing items, baskets and bon-bons were made - and more ...Fenton manufactured specialty items for several Major Brands - including Wrisley Perfumes and Avon - making perfume bottles specific to their clients' needs. These are known as Wrisley Cologne Bottles - which were used for the Hobnail Line of perfumes.A paper sticker was normally affixed to the base of the perfume bottle with the following information - "Hobnail Cologne by Wrisley (in cursive); NEW YORK CHICAGO; perfume ID; CONT. 9 FL. OZ.; MADE IN USA; BOTTLE MADE BY AMERICAN CRAFTSMAN". Hobnail Cologne was released in 1940 - advertised as 9 3/4 oz of fragrant Apple Blossom Cologne. Honeysuckle was a fragrance offered in a Fenton Hobnail Bottle.Anchor-Hocking -Anchor-Hocking began in a facility which produced glass since 1863 and formed by the merger of two major companies - "Hocking Glass" est 1905; "Anchor Cap & Closures" - in 1937.The Anchor-Hocking -Pattern named - Moonstone-Clear Opalescent - 1942-46 - having a 4-part mold - also appeared to have a more opaque neck - a wide range of Drinkware, Stemware, Tableware, and Tableware accessories (candy dishes, cream & sugar, mustard pots, cake stand, 3-section relish dishes, cruets, jelly-jars), candle-holders - several styles, vases, ginger jars, lamp bases, vanity dressing items, baskets and bowls were made - and more ...Anchor-Hocking took over the role from Fenton of manufacturing the hobnail perfume bottles required by Wrisley Perfumes for their Hobnail Line of perfumes.Supply of Promotional Items -Many well-known, VINTAGE-ERA, glassmakers - such as CORNING-PYREX; McKee-GLASBAKE; ANCHOR-HOCKING FIRE-KING - supplied many Brand-Name Companies with specialty glass-ware items to be given away as PROMOTIONAL ITEMS along with purchases of their main-stream production items. Often the suppliers did not apply their own logos - often left unmarked OR marked with the Brand-Name Co's LOGO. Such is the case with the item described in this listing.Third-Party Product - Many Brand-Name Companies made several specifically-designed items to meet the needs of other manufacturers - which they did not market separately - referred to as a THIRD-PARTY PRODUCT.Wrisley Perfumes - The Allen B. Wrisley Company was founded in 1862, Chicago (branching to New York at some point) - incorporated in 1895. Wrisley sold a wide range of toiletries which included - perfumes, colognes, creams, soaps, powders and more into the 1960's.AVON -AVON was established in 1886 by David H. McConnell as the California Perfume Co, later becoming AVON Products Inc in 1937. AVON products has been enthusiastically collected for decades.
