Description: Ford 351W "Pink" Connecting Rods - Complete Set. Looking for your restoration to be 100% year correct and original? A true garage find (pictures were shot in the garage where they were found) that makes you sit up and say, "How did these last so long unopened?" The answer is, we almost didn't find them either. A shelf broke revealing they were stuffed inside the closet wall. Why? That we have no idea. UPDATENow we do have an idea, courtesy of the daughter. The father had a '70 351W he wanted to trick out, but the wife had threatened him if he didn't get rid of all his "car junk." When he didn't do it, she had his project car towed! He never got it back, and then she made him sell off everything in the garage. He didn't have the heart to lose the rods because they reminded him of what could've been. So, he hid them so she wouldn't find them. And that's the history of these rods. Many thanks to the daughter for sharing. Offered is a complete new-old-stock (NOS) set (8 pieces) of the famous Ford "pink" connecting rod used in the venerable 351W engine. These are Canada manufacture, steel rods originally offered as the stock part in the 351W Police (LTD and Galaxy police cruisers), the same version also known as the 351W High Output (HO), which appeared in Ford truck and van applications. When used with standard pistons, they delivered an 11:1 compression ratio. A "pink" rod originally referred to a high-performance Chevy rod that had a daub of pink paint applied at the factory to identify them as a high-po part. The term was immediately adopted by engine builders to refer to any rod that was meant for high-performance. Ford never officially used the term "pink". Ford debuted the 351 Windsor in the 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1. The 351 Windsor was in a league of its own because of its heightened deck block, larger connecting rods and much “beefier” main bearing caps. It also had a very distinct firing order. These rods were originally intended for a 1969-1973 351W block having the following characteristics: 4" bore, 3.5" stroke3" crankshaft journal9.480" deck heightrod length= 5.956" They can be used with a 351W having a deck height of 9.503" (versions made 1971 and later) but this will lower the compression ratio to 8.8:1 unless compensated for with different pistons. Engine builders we spoke with do not recommend these rods for 351Ws manufactured after 1973 as the engine block had been "thinned out" to detune it to match government regulations at the time, and the rods would be overkill. This does not apply to much later editions of the 351W such as the 1995 Cobra "R" or the 351W crate engine purchased from Ford racing. The rods come in UNOPENED, original Ford packaging with the exception of one box that we opened to verify the contents. As you can see from the pictures, these rods are totally fresh, still sealed in their original plastic, with the "green goop" applied at the factory still present. They come complete as originally purchased from Ford including the "marquis" cap bolts. These rods are NOT machined or refurbished. This offer is for the rods only. THESE RODS WILL NOT FIT A CLEVELAND ENGINE BLOCK.
